Hi all. My name is Fiona, I live with my partner Sheila and our little bundle of energy Keelin.  I have set up this blog with the intention to be able to share with other Gay parents our story and support any gay people embarking on parenthood.  As anyone knows it is a bit of a roller coaster emotionally.  When we had Keelin we didn’t know many gay parents or anyone that had achieved pregnancy through donor insemination.  We used a clinic in London. When I became pregnant, which was on the first attempt, I think then we realised that we had to deal with other peoples reactions and what would they think.  At our GPs I think we were a bit like celebrities, it was the first time to have a lesbian couple as patients for maternity care.  When Keelin was born it was like people couldn’t wait to see what she looked like.  She was beautiful.  Keelin is now 20 months and is great fun.

At the time when we were trying for a baby we did find it a bit isolating and probably could have done with some support.  Then there was the endless explanations at hospital visits but we didn’t have any negative experiences in the hospital or at the GP.

I suppose now what is important to us is the legal situation for our family.  I am Keelin’s next of Kin and Sheila is not recognised as her parent in the eyes of the law.  We hope that this will change in the near future.

If you would like to share your experiences with us or find out more information please write us a post.
